Priscilla Gils Borgerhout, b. 1979
Priscilla Gils (born 1979, Borgerhout) is a Belgian artist. She studied Architecture, Art History,
and Communication Management before graduating with a Master's degree in Fine Arts
(Painting) from the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in June 2019.
Before brush and oil paint became her primary tool, the camera was her preferred tool. In
2012, two of her photographic works were selected for the final exhibition of the Canvas
Collection, which took place at Bozar in Brussels.
Separation and fragmentation; distance and proximity are key concepts. They are inherent to
her photographic practice and are means to gain a better understanding of what reveals
itself, both unconsciously (as in dreams, memories, etc.) and through direct observation. Not
only paintings, but also models, photographs, and film are part of Priscilla Gils's artistic
arsenal.
